The Transformative Power of Compassion

The word “compassion” comes from the Latin compati (‘to suffer with’). Compassion involves an understanding of our own suffering and the suffering of others. Compassion goes beyond surface-level sympathy or pity and encompasses a genuine desire to understand the nature of suffering and heal others through love and care. Deeping our heart-felt awareness, we can hold space for the trauma and emotional pain we have experienced in their lives.

Compassion is transformative power that holds the potential to awaken consciousness. Compassion can cause a deep transformation in one’s view, knowledge, and actions.

Awakened compassion involves a deep understanding of the suffering inherent in the human experience and the interconnectedness of all beings. Awakening of the heart’s compassion leads to a genuine desire to ease the suffering of others though knowledge, care, and acts of service.

Compassionate awakening can be cultivated through practices such as meditation, self-reflection, and acts of kindness.
